Jagatsinghpur: Anger has overtaken grief as the family of Saheed Prasanna Sahu tried to come to terms with his death in the horrific suicide bombing of a CRPF contingent in Jammu and Kashmir Thursday, demanding that the killing be avenged and perpetrators taught a lesson they don’t forget.
Sahu was among the 43 jawans who became martyrs after a bomb attack, Thursday. Sahu is survived by his wife and children, the martyred jawan’s family said Friday after receiving the news of his death from CRPF authorities by phone.
As continual wails of Sahu’s wife and mother broke the eerie silence of his home, other members of the family and friends said they wanted those dead in the brazen terror attack avenged.
“We want the killing of Sahu and others who died with him avenged. Those behind the cowardly attack must be taught a lesson they won’t forget,” said some youths of the village, whom Sahu often encouraged to join the force to serve the nation.
He was a good man and was a proud Odia who took pride in representing his village and state in Army. Youths of his village said Sahu asked them to prepare for the test to join the central paramilitary force when he came home on leave.
Sahu’s family first received a phone call from the CRPF that Sahu was martyred in the bomb attack. Hailing from Naugaon village in Jagatsinghpur district, Sahu had joined the CRPF years back and was very much dedicated to serving the nation.
His journey from a poor family to the Army was an inspiration for many youths in his locality. “He was a very hard working person. He did odd jobs when he was a student to support his family during his struggling days,” said villagers, fondly reminiscing about Sahu.
The village was filled with sorrow as everyone gathered to receive the body that is being flown to Bhubaneswar and will be taken to the village for final rites. Sahu wanted to spend time with his family and start a business after his retirement. But that was not to be.
