Trying to smuggle cannabis using Indian Army logo on vehicle, 3 arrested

Koraput: Jeypore Police seized a huge haul of cannabis from multiple vehicles, including an SUV sporting an Indian Army logo, which was illegally transported under the garb of fruits from Odisha’s Koraput district to Uttar Pradesh Tuesday and arrested three persons in this connection.

At least 700 kg of ganja estimated to be worth Rs 50 lakh was being illegally smuggled. Police said it is one of the largest seizures of Ganja in the district so far.

Police arrested Rahul Pratap Singh (37), and Prafulla Khemundu (24) (both from Koraput district) and Sunder Singh (55) from Uttar Pradesh in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off, Jeypore police personnel were waiting for the vehicles in civil dress near Ambaguda village. When the vehicles including a Volvo truck, an Innova SUV (with Indian Army logo) and four motorcycles started their journey, police stopped them at the exit point of the village. Though the vehicles attempted to flee the spot, they were intercepted by the alert cops.

Producing the contraband and the accused at the district Executive Magistrate, police said they have seized 728.6 kg from 36 bags in the vehicles. Police also seized all the vehicles used for the illegal work.
