Sofia Firdous to contest Kataka-Barabati seat on OJC ticket in 2029: Moquim

Sofia Firdous

Kataka: Kataka-Barabati legislator Sofia Firdous is likely to contest the next Assembly election from the Odisha Janata Congress, according to her father and party president Mohammed Moquim.

Moquim said Sunday that Firdous would contest the upcoming election from the OJC as a candidate for the Kataka-Barabati constituency, triggering speculation in Kataka’s political circles.

Firdous is currently with the Congress and cannot join the Odisha Janata Congress at this time, Moquim said.

However, she will contest the 2029 election for the OJC, he said.

“OJC is working with the dream of building a new Odisha with the Gen-Z generation. Sofia would take a leadership role in the party’s future plans,” Moquim said.

Taking a dig at the Congress, Moquim said the party currently lacks clear policies and principles.

He alleged the Congress has become “completely unfit” and its future looks bleak.

He criticised both the state and central leadership of the Congress, alleging the party has moved away from its core principles and ideology, leading to disappointment among grassroots workers.

“Congress leaders in Odisha are still pulling each other down and are concerned only about their selfish motives. No party activities are taking place in the state.

Congress has no future.

Sofia also has no future with Congress,” Moquim said.

He said the OJC would move forward by focusing on the Gen-Z generation.

Neither Congress nor Firdous has issued any reaction to Moquim’s statement so far.
