Koraput: The Koraput district administration has buckled up to develop at least three major tourist spots here to give a boost to the tourism of the district.
As per reports, the administration would strengthen the infrastructure at three major tourists spots in the district–Deomali, the highest peak of Odisha, the Duduma Waterfall at Machkund and the Rani Duduma Waterfall at Nandapur.
“On a priority basis, the three spots have been selected and more tourist related facilities will be added here. We hope better facilities at the spots will help us in attracting more tourist to the districts,’’ said Koraput collector K. Sudarshan Chakravarthy.
He said Rs 50 lakh would be spent in each of the identified tourist spots in building pathways, benches, and steps leading to the waterfalls.
Koraput, being one of the coolest places of the state with its dense forest, mountains, waterfalls and natural beauty, has always being a major tourist destination. While foreign tourists choose to visit the Duduma waterfall and Onkadeli weekly market, the Rani Duduma, Deomali hill Gupteswar and Sabara Srikhetra among others have been remained a major attraction for domestic tourists.
According to officials figure, over 30,000 tourists had visited, the district in November last, while the administration this time expects more of tourists with development of the sites.
“We expect more tourists to visits the districts this time which will subsequently enhance the rural economy,” said district tourist officer Surendra Lima.
Hoteliers have welcomed the administration’s decisions in developing the tourist spots.
“Because of the lack of basic facilities such as safe drinking water, toilets and parking spaces, tourists skip visiting the district. If facilities are added as the spots, it will boost the local economy as tourist inflow will increase,’’ said Nihar Bisoi, a Jeypore- based hotelier.
