Spartans XI crowned champs

Bhubaneswar: Spartans XI were crowned champions of the inaugural edition of the Corporate Premier League after beating Clouds XI by 13 runs in an entertaining final match here at the SOA University ground, Sunday night.

Opting to bat first, Spartans put up 163/5 on board before restricting their opponents to 150/2. Jiten Sarangi of Spartans was awarded the man of the match in the final.

The winners were presented Rs 60,000 while the runners-up took home Rs 40,000. Pratik Pattnaik emerged man of the tournament while the best batsman and bowler awards went to Amrit Pritam Mohanty and Tanmoy Parida respectively. Amrit was also adjudged the best wicket-keeper of the tournament.

Talcher XI triumph

Talcher XI emerged champions of the VIIth Dhanupali Premier League Pandit Biranchi Pati Memorial cricket tournament after a comprehensive 43-run win over Sambalpur Dream XI in the final Sunday at the Saraswati Sishu Vidyamandir Ground in Dhanupali, Sambalpur.

Talcher scored 116 for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 10 overs after electing to bat. Sipun Pradhan (36, 15b, 2×4, 4×6) played a brilliant innings for them. In reply, Sambalpur could manage only 73 for five with Jayaram (28) emerging the top scorer.

Tennis tourney

Abhijit Moharana emerged champion in the U-15 boys’ category of the Bhubaneswar Smart City Ranking badminton tournament, which concluded here Sunday.

Nandish Podar clinched the title in the U-17 boys’ category and Aditya Karan Das took top honours in the U-19 boys’ category. Smruti Swain emerged champion in the U-17 girls’ category.
