Puri: A spotted male deer was rescued by locals and forest officials from Mundala village under Brahmagiri forest range in this district Tuesday. Locals spotted the deer and informed the forest officials.
The deer, it appeared, had strayed into the human settlement in search of food or water. It entered Mundala village after it was attacked by some stray dogs. Locals chased away the dogs and rescued the deer. A team led by Brahmagiri forester Devraj Jali rushed to the spot. They took the animal to the range office.
Forester Devraj Jali said, “We received a call in the morning. When we reached there, we found the villagers had already caught hold of the animal and were waiting to hand it over to us. It was a male deer and there was no injury mark on the body. The behaviour of the deer made me feel as if it was a normal or traditional pet,” Jali said.
The rescued animal has been released in the Balukhanda Sanctuary, the forester added.
