Bhubaneswar, May 4: Srabani Nanda and Purnima Hembram clinched gold medals in the 200 metres race and heptathlon events respectively on the final day of the 19th Federation Cup National Senior Athletic Championship, which concluded at Mangalore, Karnataka, Monday. Srabani clinched two gold medals to be adjudged as the best woman athlete of the meet.
On the other hand, star sprinter Dutee Chand disappointed again to finish second in the 200metres race. Srabani clocked 23.67 seconds to take the top honour. Dutee took 24.52 seconds, which did not match her high standard.
On the basis of her performance, Srabani qualified to participate in 200 metres race of the forthcoming Asian Athletic Championship. Earlier she had qualified for the 100 metres race of the mega event.
Purnima secured 5462 points to bag the gold medal in the heptathlon event. On the basis of her performance, she was qualified for the Asian Championship.
Orissa bagged a total of seven medals in the competition. Oriya athletes dominated in the sprint events and secured a total of five medals.
