Cuttack: Justice Bimal Prasad Das Commission, constituted to suggest reform measures for Puri Srimandir, Thursday submitted its second interim report to the state government.
Commission’s secretary Bibhuprasad Parija handed over the 48-page report to Law Minister Pratap Jena at the Secretariat in Bhubaneswar.
Sources said the second interim report stressed the publicity and propagation of Jagannath culture in and outside Orissa. The panel has advised the state government to renovate and develop all religious sites and institutions associated with the Srimandir and Jagannath culture.
“The panel has proposed the immediate renovation of Baldev Jew temple at Kendrapara, Nilamadhab shrine in Nayagarh, Padmakhetra at Nemal near Salipur, Chhatiabata shrine in Jajpur and a religious site at Sonepur,” said a source.
The panel has also advised the state government to open an Oriya language centre in Puri to make the tourists aware of the Jagannath culture. It has supported a special study programme on the rituals of Srimandir in a proposed school for the children of servitors’ families.
“Justice BP Das commission has suggested the government to take steps for revival of Bhagwat culture in state. Besides, it has supported propagation of Odissi and Gotipua dances to make Jagannath culture more popular among the masses,” said a source associated with the commission.
