Puri: The Odisha government’s Srimandir Parikrama project, a component of the heritage corridor project around the Jagannath Temple in Puri, is likely to be ready within three months, State Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra said.
Upon completion it will create an unobstructed 75-metre corridor around the ‘Meghanad Pacheri’, the outer wall of the temple, and will also be helpful for devotees, ‘sevayats’ (priests) and the smooth management of different rituals, the chief secretary said.
Speaking to reporters after reviewing the project here Saturday, Mohapatra said work is expected to be completed before the Annual RathYatra and devotees visiting the temple would be able to have a glimpse of the shrine from a distance too.
The project is part of the state government’s Rs 3,200-crore Augmentation of Basic Amenities and Development of Heritage and Architecture Scheme that aims to develop Puri as a World Class Heritage City.
Khondalite stones are being used in the beautification work around the 12th-century shrine, he said.
The corridor will be decorated with stone decorative, wood trees, shrubs and flower beds related to Jagannath culture.
The project also proposes a queue management facility that can handle 6,000 people, along with a security checking facility.
After reaching the pilgrim town, the chief secretary first visited ‘Swargadwar’ to see the development and beautification works at the cremation ground.
