Bhubaneswar: Those who are thinking that the battle between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the three-member Justice RM Lodha panel is over after the Supreme Court verdict, January 3 should fasten their seat belts once more. The second round is about to start and this time, it is allegedly being led by none other than the once disgraced former BCCI president Narayanaswami Srinivasan.
If sources are to be believed the former ICC chairman has called a meeting Saturday in Bangalore to discuss the next course of action against the Supreme Court verdict. The meeting will be attended by top officials of almost all the BCCI affiliated units, who have been forced to vacate their chair in the aftermath of the judgement of the apex court. And according to information from various sources, Srinivasan himself will bear the travel costs as the meeting will be an unofficial one.
The day he was sacked by the decision of the Supreme Court, Ajay Shirke had promised complete cooperation for the Pune ODI between India and England to be played January 15. Well that stand has changed now for quite a few associations – it will be anything but cooperation to host the India-England games.
The idea is crystal clear, let the people appointed by the SC conduct the matches and run associations and watch the fun from far away. A plan of non-cooperation has been formed so that the panel faces difficulty while taking every step during the upcoming India-England limited overs series.
However, since the information regarding this ‘rebel’ meeting has become public, there are chances that quite a few will drop out attending it as it would tantamount to ‘contempt of Court’. However, certain close Srinivasan aides, most of whose administrative careers are over because of the ‘nine years time limit’ are expected to attend the meeting it. Sourav Ganguly was also invited for the meeting, but he has declined the invitation.
There was no confirmation as to whether any of the erstwhile OCA office-bearers will be going. Former secretary Asirbad Behera’s phone was switched off for most part of the day, while calls to ex-president Ranjib Biswal went unanswered.
