New Delhi: In a big relief to students of Sardar Rajas Medical College (SRMC), the Supreme Court Tuesday directed the authorities to relocate the Jaring-based private medical college students to three other private medical colleges in the state. They include Hi-Tech, Kaling Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital.
Hearing a petition in this regard, the apex court directed the state government to complete the admission process within seven days, keep the admission fees at par with the government medical colleges in the state.
“The Supreme Court directed the state government to complete the admission of all 124 students of Sardar Rajas Medical College in three recognised private medical colleges within seven days. They have to pay fees according to the government medical college fees in the state. The apex court also directed all medical college students not to go for any kind of protest or strike, said senior advocate Dr Ashok Kumar Mohapatra,.
Students of three government medical colleges in the state had earlier filed a special leave petition (SLP) in apex court against an order on admission of students of Jaring-based medical college in government medical colleges, thereby pushing the future of the private medical colleges into uncertainty.
In an earlier hearing January 8, the court had ordered maintenance of status quo on its earlier interim order barring Sardar Rajas Medical College students to attend classes in other government medical colleges till the hearing scheduled for Tuesday is completed.
Earlier, as per an order of the Orissa High Court, around 55 students of Sardar Rajas Medical College had taken admission in MKCG Medical College while 54 students were absorbed in VIMSAR. Five students each were relocated to three private institutions – Hi Tech Medical College, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and SUM Hospital.
However, following Tuesday’s verdict by the apex court, students who took admission in the two government colleges, will now have to be relocated to the three private medical colleges.
