Bhubaneswar: St Xavier’s High School, Kedargouri rode on a goal each by Aaron Jena and Ved Prakash Pradhan to beat DAV School, Pokhariput 2-0 in their opening Group-B league match of the 29th MCL Cup Inter-School football tournament at the Unit-VI Boys’ High School Ground here Wednesday.
Aaron struck in the 18th minute to enable St Xavier’s go into the break with a 1-0 lead. After the change of ends, Prakash made the issue safe with his strike in the 48th minute.
After receiving a pass from the left, Prakash hoodwinked two opposition defenders before beating the opposition goalkeeper with booming right-footer to the right corner of the net. He was adjudged the player of the match for his spectacular strike.
Earlier in the day, new entrants Palasuni High School held St Joseph’s High School to a goalless draw in their first Group-A match. Guru Mandari of Palasuni HS was adjudged the player of the match. However, the encounter turned out to be drab as play was mostly restricted to the midfield.
