Bhubaneswar: The state government has adopted five villages in each Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) to double the income of farmers.
As many as 33 KVKs are functioning under the administrative control of the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) across the state, sources said Saturday. Five villages have been adopted by each KVK to take up agricultural development programmes.
The villages have been designated as Prime Minister’s adopted village, Chancellor’s village, Chief Minister’s village, Sansad’s (MP) village and Vice-Chancellor’s village, the sources said.
A meeting is being organised on third Tuesday of every month to review the progress of the existing works and an action plan for another month at the KVK level.
Officials from cooperative banks, OUAT, agriculture department, progressive farmers and civil societies are attending the meeting.
However, convergence of Central and state government schemes are yet to take place. As a result, the progress is not satisfactory, the sources said.
Now, the OUAT has sought personal intervention of chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi in the issue. Padhi has asked the departments to extend their support to achieve the goal. PNN
