Bhubaneswar, Feb 3: Orissa Khadi and Village Industries Board (OK&VIB) will have a pact with Karnataka Khadi and Village Industries Board (KK&VIB) to ensure growth of Khadi production and institutions in the state.
“There will be an all round co-ordination between Orissa and Karnataka khadi boards,’’ said state khadi board president Tejeswar Parida, Tuesday.
Parida, who paid a three-day visit to Karnataka Khadi Board on ‘Mission Karnataka’ beginning January 31, said, he had met his Karnataka counterpart Laxmanrao A Chingale and sought long-term co-operaton for sharing of advance knowhow, introduction, revival and growth of Khadi institutions.”
“The state government will implement the Chief Minister Employment Generation Programme in the state very shortly. In view of this I have discussed employment generation schemes with my Karnataka counterpart for creating similar employment opportunities for unemployed youth and SHG women in our state,” he said.
Parida said Karnataka has over 100 Khadi societies and Orissa has suggested sharing of advanced knowhow and technologies which can be implemented in 16 tribal dominated districts of Orissa.
“The state khadi board will provide modern spinning wheels to khadi societies at Kukudahandi in Ganjam, Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur, Delang in Puri and a society in Sonepur at an estimated budget of `40 lakh,” he said.
“Steps will be taken to create more such societies in our state,” he said.
While Orissa is good in silk and tussar production, Karnataka is good at tussar and cotton production. Both the states will work together for promotion of tussar and cotton cloth production in the two states through the exchange of skills and technologies.
He said Orissa will work with Karnataka for emphasising the production of readymade khadi garments and dress-designing.
“The Karnataka Khadi Board has agreed to allow our khadi societies to sell their products in Mysore and Bangalore and provide scope for marketing of our products.”
The state will hold a national ‘Khadi Utsav’ in the last week of this month in which Karnataka will also participate.
