State plans affordable housing for 10,000 urban households

Bhubaneswar: The state government has drawn up plans to provide affordable housing for 10,000 urban households across nine Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), with a focus on improving living conditions for vulnerable and disadvantaged communities under its urban development initiatives.

The housing plans, prepared under the Affordable Housing in Partnership component, are ready for implementation, Additional Chief Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development department Usha Padhee said while chairing the third Executive Committee meeting of the Odisha Liveable Habitat Mission Friday.

Padhee directed officials to expedite implementation and ensure that eligible households receive the benefits without delay. The meeting also deliberated on proposed schemes and components under the Chief Minister Smart City Mission.

Padhee asked the officials concerned to finalise the guidelines at the earliest, keeping the housing and habitat-related needs of the most vulnerable sections of urban society in focus.

Destitute persons, landless families and older persons were identified as key beneficiary groups requiring targeted interventions to address their specific needs.

She also emphasised the need to prioritise the 2026-27 budget for initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of the most marginalised urban communities.

Underscoring the importance of effective resource utilisation and timely execution of approved programmes, Padhee called for a people-centric approach to urban development to ensure that government initiatives deliver tangible benefits to those most in need.

The Executive Committee also reviewed key financial and administrative matters relating to the functioning of the Mission.

The deliberations reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to expanding access to affordable housing, improving urban living conditions and developing more inclusive and liveable habitats across the state.
