Bhubaneswar: The state government will conduct at least one job fair every quarter in each district to provide employment to skilled youth, according to a decision taken at the state-level joint conference of district employment officers (DEOs) and project implementing agencies (PIAs) held here at Niyojan Bhawan.
Skill development and technical education secretary LN Gupta, who presided over the meeting, has asked the DEOs to organise at least one job fair every quarter in each district with the support of local industries, district industry centres and the district administration.
The PIAs were asked to provide skill development training to at least 2,000 youth during the current financial year. The agencies have also been asked to complete installation of biometric attendance system in their respective training locations by the end of this month, while the DEOs have been asked to digitise all live records by May 15, 2016.
Gupta also said that placement should be visible and sustainable as the ultimate objective of the program is to enable youth to get employment. He asked PIAs to document and publish success case studies for generating awareness among youth.
Employment mission director G Rajesh outlined the detailed the progress of the employment programme over the years. In 2015-16, 13,181 youth have been trained through 159 training centers in 28 districts. A total of 53,792 youths have been trained during the last four years under the programme.
Among the major trades covered during the current financial year are information and communication technology (32.5 per cent), health and nursing (14 per cent), construction (13.32 per cent) and electrical (7 per cent). Of 13,181 youth trained in 2015-16, 34.44 per cent are women, 14.64 per cent belong to ST and 12.71 per cent to SC community.
