Sundargarh: A schoolboy died after he fell down from a tree near Bhalulata Sevashram School under Bisra block in Sundargarh district Wednesday.
The deceased identified as Sanjay Oram (14), a Class IX student of the school had climbed a Deodar tree to collect its leaves to decorate the school premises on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. He accidentally fell down from the tree and sustained grievous injuries on his head.
Following the incident, the teachers first rushed him to Bisra Community Health Centre and later shifted him to Rourkela government hospital as his condition deteriorated. Even though he was again shifted to Hi-tech Hospital for better treatment and was admitted to the hospital ICU, he succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, Sundargarh Collector Surendra Kumar Meena directed district welfare officer to begin probe into the incident and submit a report in this connection. He also directed the concerned officials to compensate the kin of the deceased.
On the other hand, family members of the deceased and some locals gheraoed the school till filing of this report.
