post news network, Bhubaneswar, June 21: Yoga not only brings peace to the mind and flexibility to the body, but also enhances the power to concentrate. Therefore, it may be said that if practiced from a young age, it would help students not only to grow up healthier but also to do better in studies.
In order to get all the benefits of the yogic postures, most of the city schools celebrated the first International Day of Yoga, Sunday, June 21, on their premises in style. Both the teachers and the students did asanas for better living.

More than 100 students and the staff of Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School performed various yogic postures on their school premises. “The decision taken by the government will benefit all the students and the teachers of the school. It is true that yoga has massive healing power and it has the capacity to bring peace to mind. I believe practicing yoga will help students concentrate better in their study,” said Sandhya Jena, principal of the school.
Students and the staff of the KIIT and the KISS also assembled early in the morning on their campus to celebrate the occasion. The programme was led by the founder of the KIIT and the KISS, Achyuta Samanta.
“Yoga is the only way to free our body and mind from various illnesses. We all know that yoga is a journey through the inner ‘self’ to connect with the supreme soul. Yoga and meditation help to relax our mind and fight diseases,” said Samanta.
Meanwhile, students of the DAV schools at Pokharipiut and Unit-8 took part in yoga sessions to mark the special day. Students and teachers were seen wearing attires befitting the occasion and performing asanas at their campuses. “I could see the enthusiasm in the eyes of all participants after the programme. We are planning a 30-minute yoga session on every working day for the teachers” said Sujata, the head of the institution.
Students were visibly happy to get the opportunity to observe the first International Day of Yoga. “Today, Yoga is highly necessary for people of all walks of life. It helps to keep our body healthy. I also performed various yoga postures like bhujangasna (cobra pose), naukasana (boat pose) and vajrasana (adamantine pose). I felt relaxed after doing the asanas,” said Tapan Kumar Swain, a KIIT student.
