Rourkela: “Education has changed a lot in recent years keeping in pace with the advent of technologies,” said University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Prof Bed Prakash. He was speaking at the seventh convocation ceremony of the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) here Sunday.
He called for harmony between education and research to bring in change in the social system and improve overall standard of living.
He urged students to work hard to achieve sure success and develop leadership in the sphere of education. “Instead of seeking jobs, students should pledge to emerge as entrepreneurs and create employment for others,” the UGC chief added.
Prof Prakash also lauded the contributions of BPUT students in Swachh Bharat mission.
State Governor SC Jamir called upon students to contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the nation. He added that research and technology should form an integral part of education to make it more pragmatic.
BPUT vice-chancellor Prof Shyam Sundar Patnaik, while delivering the welcome address, hinted at the steps taken by the institution in creating research opportunities and providing employment for students. A total of 1.35 lakh students of 153 engineering colleges are enrolled under BPUT, he said.
A total of 64,926 students were conferred with degrees; 51 with gold medals and eight with PhD at the convocation ceremony.
Among others, university registrar Md Altaf Khan, several senior officials and deans of all the departments attended the ceremony.
The Governor inaugurated the entry gate to the university.
