Bhubaneswar, Sept 28: One hundred and fourteen beautiful photographs by 43 participants depicting the beauty of Orissa are on display at the exhibition ‘A Different View – Orissa through our lenses’ organised by Mushroom, the photographer’s circle at Lalit Kala Akademi here Monday.
Formed in 2013, the group is the largest photography circle in the city with more than 100 registered members from across the state and other parts of the country.
As the theme of the exhibition is Orissa, the members have contributed beautiful frames showcasing the state’s festivals and moods as well as its art, culture, architecture, temples, landscapes, wildlife, monuments and beautiful coastlines.
Inaugurating the exhibition, minister of state, panchayati raj and law, Arun Kumar Sahoo appreciated the participants for showcasing the beauty of the state.
Speaking to Orissa POST, Sumon Sinha, president and founder member of the circle said, “This is our 4th exhibition and this time we chose Orissa as a theme. Through the exhibition we tried to capture the beauty and essence of the state, scenic beauty of coastlines and places like Koraput and Similipal. However, there are many other themes left unexplored.”
“We are just trying to project Orissa through our lens as people might have seen these destinations but we projected them in different angles. We are promoting photography as such and there are many in our midst who are professional photographers and doing great work,” he added.
The displays feature famous festivals of the state like Rath Yatra, Holi, Shital Shasti and Baliyatra and the multi-hued coastlines in Puri, Gopalpur, Chandipur and Chilika. Some of the displays portray the wildlife diversity of the state at Bhitarkanika, Similipal and Barbara Reserve Forest. Many of us who have not visited the western part of the state will be surprised by the scenic beauty of the region with its beautiful waterfalls and the crystal clear water flowing through rocky terrains.
A black-and-white photograph of Satyabrata Mohapatra depicting a group of sages taking their daily meal really looked majestic. “I took this picture at Mahima Gadi. Sages from all over the country and the neighbouring countries gather there to elect their guru during Magha Saptami. The interesting thing is they take their meal once a day,” said Mohapatra.
The exhibition will continue till October 4.
