Rourkela: In a shocking incident, a five-year-old girl of Tumran village under Brahmani Tarang police limits in Sundargarh district was branded with hot iron to cure her illness, a report said Friday.
According to sources, the child has been suffering from severe cough and fever for the past few days. When her health did not improve, her parents allegedly branded her with a hot iron rod.
Later, the girl was rushed to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela. Doctors said her condition was critical and she was kept under observation.
Even after several reports in the media and awareness campaigns by the administration about the harmful consequences of branding children, the barbaric practice still continues to prevail in tribal society.
