Bhubaneswar, June 22: The sunstroke death toll in the state went up to 63 even as monsoon covered the entire state by third week of June.
The collectors of several districts have so far confirmed deaths of 63 persons due to sunstroke in recent months, a communication from the special relief commissioners (SRC) office said Monday. “The collectors sent confirmation of 63 deaths after probing the sunstroke causality reports received during past two months,” an official said.
While the highest number of sunstroke cases has been confirmed in Ganjam district (16), Kendrapara follows at 8. Dhenkanal reported six cases while Bolangir and Bargarh have five each. Moreover, Jajpur has four, Puri three and Cuttack, Keonjhar and Rayagada two each.
One sunstroke death each has been confirmed in Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Boudh, Deogarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi, Khurda, Nuapada and Sonepur, they said. PTI
