Gajapati: A supply assistant engaged in cyclone evacuation work died following a sudden illness Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Surendra Gamang, posted at Potara panchayat under Rayagada block in Gajapati district.
According to reports, Gamang went to bed after having dinner but suddenly felt uneasy.
He was first taken to Jiranga Primary Health Centre for treatment.
However, doctors shifted him to Parlakhemundi district headquarters hospital after his health condition deteriorated.
The doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Sources said Gamang had been engaged in cyclone relief work since October 26.
He was overseeing the evacuation of people to cyclone shelters and managing their accommodation and food arrangements.
