Bhubaneswar: Tarun Patnaik played superbly as he came from behind to upstage Godwin Kullu 4-2 in the Ist All Odisha 6-Red Snooker Championships which started at the 6Pockets Club, here Friday.
Tarun did not start well and fell behind losing the opening two frames. However, he bounced back strongly winning four frames in a row to pocket the match.
Most of the matches played on the day were one-sided affairs. Jagdish Mohanty thrashed Chandra Mohanty 4-0 while Sharada Behera also prevailed over Karan Arora by an identical margin.
Gyan Das had an easy outing against Chetan Anand beating him 4-1, Manas Beura defeated Ravi Raj 4-1 and Suman Patnaik easily sailed past Anurag Samanta 4-0.
The only tie which became a close affair was the one between Biraj Dash and Udbhas Mohapatra. The former after some nerve-jangling moments, won 4-3
Subhrajeet got walkover as his opponent Jeet Mohapatra failed to turn up.
Football tourney
The Emami Rajat Jayanti football tournament will begin September 17, in Balasore. Several leading clubs around the state, namely Bidanasi Club, Aka Club (both Cuttack), Sangharsh Club (Bhubaneswar), Balasore Sports Hostel, Baripada Sports Hostel, Jay Kishan Club and Netaji Club, will participate in the meet.
For the first time the teams have included some foreign players, especially from Nigeria, along with some national players, in their teams.
