Indo-Asian News Service, New Delhi, May 28: All those who fancy being called foodies but fear that too much food would put on those extra kilos on their curvy or macho body, read on.

Located in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash 1 area, the restaurant is known for it’s made to order customised pita sandwiches and salads.

The Pita Pit Lounge, with its interiors, menu, a selection of books to read and free Wi-Fi, offers customers a place to take a breather from their hectic schedules. The ambiance is chic and despite its modern looks, the traditional touch to the interiors, with a few plants here and there, also keep it rooted in tradition.

“Considering the canvas here is much larger, we have sampled with innovative materials and classical themes to give the place a lounge-cum-cafe effect,” Anun Dhawan, director of Mentor Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., the master franchise holders of Pita Pit in north and east India, told IANS.

“The fresh thinking reflects in the design as much as it does in the food Pita Pit serves,” he added.

You can choose from an extensive range of fresh vegetables, grilled meats, premium spreads and cheeses, along with zesty sauces – all rolled into a pita, a soft, slightly leavened flatbread baked from wheat flour.

Pita is used in many Mediterranean, Balkan and Middle Eastern cuisines and resembles other slightly leavened flatbreads such as the Iranian nan-e-barbari, south Asian flatbreads and central Asian naan.

While the eatery has a range of delicious offerings for non-vegetarians – smoked chicken breast, chicken ham and chicken sheekh kabab, to name just a few – it doesn’t disappoint the vegetarians either. On offer is chipotle potato (baked potato with chipotal spicing), khasta kebab (peas and green chilly kebab) and fresh paneer (diced and grilled), among others.

But what makes this place different from others is the use of fresh fruits and vegetables in the stuffing of the sandwiches. All the sandwiches that I had were perfectly balanced with chicken (for non-vegetarians), paneer (for vegetarians), fruits and green leafy vegetables and the sauces.

To add to this were some delicious salads, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Pita Pit also allows you to customise your salads with the sauces and vegetables of your choice.

But “all’s well that ends well” means that no Indian meal is complete without a dessert. And believe me, you won’t be disappointed here on that front too. The restaurant offers mouth-watering choco pudding, lemon cake and chocolate cake, to name just three.

You can definitely try the hot-baked lemon cake which, the outlet says, is a hot-seller.

The Lounge also has pita toasties and new desserts on its menu. It also has a host of freshly-squeezed juices, organic green teas and coffees on offer.

One can try watermelon juice as it will chill you down and refresh you in just a sip. The lounge has become a favourite hangout joint for both youngsters and office goers.

Where and at what cost?
