Bhubaneswar: Odisha has made significant progress under the 100-Day TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan 2.0, screening over 5.18 lakh people and organising 4,470 tuberculosis (TB) screening camps across the state as part of the Centre’s intensified campaign to eliminate the disease.
The nationwide campaign, launched March 24, 2026 by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), was implemented across all 30 districts by the State TB Cell under the Directorate of Public Health, Department of Health and Family Welfare.
The campaign concluded July 5. According to official figures, over 3.44 lakh people participated in TB screening camps held in urban, rural and remote areas. Community-based screening initiatives covered more than 5.18 lakh individuals, helping identify people at risk and facilitating early diagnosis.
The campaign also strengthened preventive care, with 9,013 household contacts of TB patients initiated on TB Preventive Treatment (TPT) to reduce the risk of future infections. Under the Ni-kshay Mitra initiative, 28,348 Poshan Kits were distributed to TB patients to provide nutritional support, a key component of TB treatment and recovery.
Health officials said the campaign witnessed extensive public participation, bringing together elected representatives, district administrations, healthcare workers, educational institutions, corporate partners, civil society organisations, community leaders and volunteers in a collective effort to combat the disease.
Frontline health workers, including ASHAs, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), Community Health Officers (CHOs), medical officers and District TB Centre teams, conducted door-to-door outreach, awareness drives and special screening camps targeting vulnerable and high-risk populations.
Schools, colleges and community organisations also played an active role in spreading awareness about early detection, treatment adherence and reducing the stigma associated with tuberculosis. Officials said the campaign has strengthened the implementation of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme in Odisha by improving early case detection, expanding preventive treatment and increasing community participation.
The Health and Family Welfare department thanked healthcare workers, district administrations, Ni kshay Mitras, development partners, media and citizens for contributing to the campaign’s success.
Reaffirming its commitment to the national goal of eliminating tuberculosis, the state government said it would continue to intensify screening, ensure timely diagnosis and treatment, expand nutritional support and strengthen community engagement to move closer to a TB-free Odisha and support India’s target of ending TB.
