Nayagarh: The police are yet to make any arrest in connection with a viral video where a young boy and a girl believed to be a ‘couple’ were harassed by a group of men and made to kneel down on a temple premises here in this district.
Even as the video of the harassment has been circulating on social media platforms Whatsapp and Facebook for over a week now, the police have failed to get a lead into the case.
When contacted, the police said no complaint was lodged in this connection. But they were looking into the matter.
As per the video, the incident occurred while the two youths aged around 18-20 years were sitting near each other and talking on the premises of Raghunath Temple at Balangi Bandha Sahi near Nayagarh town.
Meanwhile, some local youths spotted the two and began harassing them. The youths made the couple kneel down and thrashed them with a stick. The 1.49 minute video shows a gang of youths threatening them by demanding their parents’ phone numbers to inform them about their presence in the temple.
They can be heard abusing the boy and the girl using filthy language. While no exact reason was known, the youths claimed the two were found in a compromising position in the temple.
The couple is seen begging with the youths to let them go and not repeat the act in future, but the youths kept harassing them.
The local police received sharp criticism as they have failed to arrest the miscreants even a week after the incident.
