Koraput, March 1: Tension ran high at the district headquarters hospital here following the death of a youth after he was hit by a car Sunday. As the news of the death spread, his friends and colleagues thrashed the car owner’s son black and blue in the presence of police.
The car owner’s son was admitted to the district headquarters hospital as he became critical. The irate mob did not even spare the cops who tried to save the car owner’s son.
As tension prevailed, the main gate of the hospital remained closed for about two hours while police personnel were deployed in the hospital to thwart any law and order situation.
Sources said the car, which was proceeding towards Kendriya Vidyalaya from Aravinda Nagar, collided with a
motorcycle before hitting Naveen Kumar who was on his way to house after taking lunch at around 2 pm. After being hit by the car, Kumar, an employee of a private company, bumped into a nearby boundary and became critical.
Kumar, who had come here for
training, was rushed to the district
headquarters hospital.
He, however, succumbed to his injuries. Kumar belonged to Indupur village of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh, sources said.
As the news of his death spread, other trainees who had come here, gathered at the spot and created ruckus over his death. As the driver of the car fled the area after causing the mishap, the irate mob thrashed the car owner’s son, who reached the spot after the mishap to
enquire about the situation, mistaking him to be the driver of the car.
On being informed, a team of personnel from Town police station reached the spot and tried to pacify the mob. The mob did not even spare the cops who tried to intervene and save the car owner’s son.
The unruly youths also damaged the car and gathered near the hospital for several hours anticipating that the car owner was inside the hospital.
The protesters also closed the main gate of the hospital and announced that they would not vacate the hospital till the car owner came to spot. On the other hand, the car owner’s son was admitted to the DHH, while Kumar’s body has been sent for post-mortem. Police said they have informed Kumar’s family members about the incident.
