Malkangiri: Tension ran high at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here following the death of a college girl due to alleged medical negligence Sunday.
Mamata, a Plus II student of a private residential college, had gone to her village MV-85 in Padmagiri panchayat during Dussehra vacation.
She was admitted to Padmagiri community health centre (CHC) after she experienced dizziness, vomiting and chest pain a few days back. Doctors referred her to the DHH as there was no improvement in her condition.
However, her family members accused the doctors at the DHH of neglecting Mamata which led to her death.
“She was only administered two saline drips and some medicines in the last two days without any proper treatment,” the girl’s mother alleged. “They did not provide oxygen to my daughter when she experienced chest pain. This led to her death,” the woman claimed.
Mamata’s death triggered tension at the hospital as hundreds of locals rushed to the spot and staged a demonstration.
Adding to the tension, there was no ambulance available to transport the body to the village. The protesters accused the medical authorities of not providing the vehicle intentionally. Later, the additional district medical officer (ADMO) reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
He arranged a vehicle and sent the body after pacifying the agitators. The ADMO, however, refuted the allegations and claimed there was no negligence in Mamata’s treatment. PNN
