Sambalpur, June 29: Tension flared up after a schoolgirl died in road mishap near Central School here Monday.
The deceased was identified as Neha Bhorsagar (7) of Panchagachhia area here. The injured Angel Minz (7) was admitted to VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred when the two class II students of Beheramunda ME School, were on way to the school Monday morning. They were hit by a tractor near the Central School, killing Neha on the spot.
As the news spread, irate locals blocked Burla-Sambalpur National Highway near Panchagachhia. The protesters demanded compensation to the families of deceased as well as injured, arrest of the tractor driver, completion of bridge near Beheramunda and ban on movement of heavy vehicles on the route.
On being informed, Sadar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Utkal Keshari Das, Ainthapali police station IIC Sreeemanta Barik, Si Sushanta Pradhan and other senior cops reached the spot and held discussions with the protesters.
After the cops assured them to look into the demands, the agitators relented and left the spot. Later, Ainthapali sent Neha’s body to VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla for post-mortem.
Ainthapali police also registered a case under sections 279, 337, 338 and 304 (A) of the IPC. Till filing of this report, police could not trace the killer vehicle and arrest its driver.
