Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police officials Monday took Bhagwat Thakur, one of the miscreants involved in the UCO Bank loot case, on a 5-day remand.
The commissionerate police November 19 had sought seven-day remand of Thakur for interrogation into the case further and finding out details of the other accomplices involved in the robbery.
Police have so far arrested two miscreants allegedly involved in the daring robbery of `3 lakh and gold ornaments weighing a kilogram from UCO Bank’s Bapuji Nagar branch September 28.
While Thakur belongs to Vaishali district of Bihar, the other accused Vijay Shah is a native of Begusarai in the same state. They were brought to Orissa on transit remand.
Police said Shah’s remand will expire November 22 and then they will produce him in a court here.
Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi told Orissa POST they suspect involvement of three other miscreants in the loot case.
“We suspect that three other miscreants were involved in the loot. We are questioning the duo to ascertain the identities of their associates, who are also possibly natives of Bihar. If need arises, we will again send a team to Bihar to probe the matter further,” he said.On being asked how the miscreants arrived in the city, the DCP said some of them came by train and some by motorcycles.Police sources said if the cops fail to elicit information from the duo during their remand period then it would be extremely difficult for them to nab the other miscreants involved in the case.
The duo is among a group of five armed miscreants who gained entry into the bank at 9.30 am and robbed the bank by assaulting its chief manager Abhimanyu Behera and at least ten customers. The miscreants are stated to be involved in many bank loot cases in Bengal and Jharkhand.
