post news network, Bhubaneswar, May 6: Since its inception in 1970, the Uttar Purush theatre group has been working hard to promote theatre in the state. They have been using new and innovative ideas for the development of modern theatre.
In keeping with their overall objective the group has organised a four- day theatre fest called, Uttar Purush Theatre Festival, with the support of the state culture department and the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, which kicked off at Rabindra Manap here Tuesday. Around four dramas, based on short stories written by eminent writers, have been included in the festival.
“The theater group was started in 1970 and since then every year we organise the festival where theatre artists from our group perform different dramas based on the short stories written by eminent writers from the state and other parts of the country. This year we are performing four dramas and all have some social message. The main objective of the festival is the development of the modern theater and modern theatre techniques,” said Gaurishyam Mohapatra, the general secretary of the theatre group.
Around 35 artists from the theatre group are performing in the dramas, which include ‘Ta Maa Ro Kahani’ and ‘Iswaro Soichanti’ to be performed on the last two days. ‘Jupakastha’ was performed on the first day of the festival. ‘Khyudhita Sarishrupa’, a family drama, was staged Wednesday.
