Mumbai: The state of Maharashtra has been a home to many famous celebrities but this state has also given us many great cricketers, who had the proud opportunity to captain the Indian cricket team.
Following are the captains of the Indian cricket team hailing from Maharashtra and made the country proud many a times:-
Sachin Tendulkar: Often referred as the “God of Cricket” and “Master Blaster”, hails from Maharashtra. He captained the Indian team from the year 1996 to the year 2000.
Ravi Shastri: Ravi Shastri is one of the many Maharashtra-products of the 80s in the Indian side. He is a former player, Indian cricket commentator and currently the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team. He captained India to victory in only one test match against West Indies at Madras in 1987-88.
Dilip Vengsarkar: Dilip Vengsarkar was a part of the Indian cricket team when the country won the World Cup in 1983. He replaced Kapil Dev and was made the captain of the Indian team after 1987 World Cup.
Sunil Gavaskar: Sunil Gavaskar, the greatest opening batsman in test cricket history represented India internationally and Mumbai in domestic cricket. He has been an ICC match referee, President of BCCI, chairman of ICC cricket committee, commentator and an analyst.
Rohit Sharma: He is the vice-captain of the India national team in limited-overs formats.
Ajinkya Madhukar Rahane: Ajinkya Madhukar Rahane is a right-handed batsman and has been the vice-captain of the Indian national team in test formats. He captained India and led the team to victory in the fourth test against Australia in 2017 when Virat Kohli was suffering from a shoulder injury.
