Bahanaga: Tension mounted at a primary school at Nachindha village under this block in Balasore district after a Class II boy was brutally beaten up by a lady teacher for failing to understand arithmetic lessons taught by her, according to a report.
Six-year-old Subham sustained critical injuries on his legs and thighs and other parts of the body and was admitted to a hospital. The incident sparked resentment among the guardians who locked the school and staged a protest demanding immediate suspension of the lady teacher Rashmita Jena. The agitation was withdrawn after the block education officer reached the scene and promised action against the teacher.
According to sources, the primary school houses students studying in Class I to Class V. However, apart from the headmaster, only one teacher has been appointed to take care of the students of five classes.
Earlier, the villagers had lodged complaints against the teacher and the HM for not providing mid day meals to the students in the school. This angered the lady teacher who often beat up the students whose parents had complained against her, the villagers alleged.
Meanwhile, the lady teacher admitted that she had beaten up the boy for not understanding what she taught. Shubham was so terrified by the thrashing that he suddenly started suffering from fever and had to be admitted to a hospital.
Earlier, the teacher had also beaten up a Class V girl Arkita Rout, the villagers alleged. “We did not say anything when she beat up the girl. This time it was not possible to keep quiet as the little boy was punished in such a harsh manner for committing a minor mistake,” a villager said.
