Malkangiri/Balasore, June 5: Vigilance sleuths arrested two clerks of Motu tehsil office in Malkangiri district Friday while they were receiving bribe from a person for issuing income and nativity certificate to him. The arrested were Chudamani Patra and Maheswar Behera.
According to the Vigilance sources, a person named Kalipad Pal of MPV-79 village under Motu tehsil had applied for getting income and nativity certificate around 15 days ago.
However, he did not get these certificates even after 15 days following which he had approached the junior clerk Chudamani Patra.
But, Patra had demanded `1,000 bribe from him for issuing these certificates. Kalipad, on the other hand, lodged a complaint with the Vigilance department against the clerk.
After receiving the complaint, Vigilance officials immediately planned to lay a trap to nab the clerk. Accordingly, a team of Vigilance officials went to the tehsil office Friday in civil dress. As per the plan, the complainant gave `1,000 to Chudamani. But, the Vigilance officials who were present there immediately conducted raid there.
Seeing them, Chudamani handed over the money to another clerk Maheswar Behera who was sitting adjacent to him and attempted to run away.
Vigilance officials had a scuffle with both the clerks for a few minutes. Finally, Vigilance officials arrested both the clerks and took them to the Vigilance office at Malkangiri.
Meanwhile a Balasore-report says that in yet another case of arrest for taking bribe, the vigilance sleuths Friday arrested a clerk of Remuna tehsil while receiving a bribe of `1000 from a person. Ghanashyam Jena of Gandarda in Nizampur panchayat had applied for a demarcation order for his land boundary.
However, the clerk Manas Ranjan Mohapatra had demanded `2,000 from Jena and send an amin to demarcate the latter’s land. Jena had paid `1000 and assured to pay the rest amount later, but alerted Vigilance SP, Balasore, Dayanidhi Gochhayat.
The vigilance sleuths laid out a plan. DSP Madhusudan Behera and inspector Umesh Panda seized the chemical-laced money from the clerk and arrested him.
