Bhubaneswar, Jan 24: Commissionerate Police Saturday arrested three persons for allegedly selling cannabis here.
The three persons were arrested from a house in Kalinganagar area under Khandagiri police limits, police commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma said. Police also seized 375 kg cannabis from them.
“A joint operation was carried out by the Quick Action Team (QAT) and the Khandagiri police to nab Prakash Chandra Pradhan (27), Santosh Kumar Khuntia (32) and Narayan Pradhan (53) for allegedly selling cannabis here, which they used to procure from Patangi, Similiguda and other areas of Koraput district,” the commissioner said.
Sharma, however, said there was no Naxal link in the matter.
The police arrested the trio, all of Nayagarh district, from their rented house at plot number 756, K-8 in Kalinganagar area. Along with 375 kg cannabis, the police also seized Rs 32,000 in cash, two electronic weighing machines, one motorcycle and five fake number plates.
Prakash, Santosh and Narayan used to transport cannabis by camouflaging it in trucks carrying onions and potatoes, the police said, adding that the three used to sell the cannabis in Kolkata and Delhi also.
In Bhubaneswar, the cost of one kg of cannabis is around Rs 4,000, while in Kolkata it costs around Rs 8,000 and in Delhi it is sold at Rs 15,000.
