Balasore, May 7: Three persons were Thursday killed when a truck ran over them near Markona on National Highway-5 here, police said. Tension mounted in the area after the accident.
A fruit vendor, Rabindra Sahu (42), bus conductor Dibakar Khamari (30) and helper Rian Khan (35) were engaged in unloading packets from a Balasore-bound bus when a truck ran over them, the police said.
Rian died on the spot while the two others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital here. Rabindra was the secretary of the local traders’ association. He used to bring fruits from Cuttack by buses.
His younger brother was to get married Thursday. After such an unfortunate incident, the marriage of his brother has been postponed for the time being. The local market remained closed following the accident. The police have registered a case and seized both the bus and the truck.
