Bhubaneswar: Virat Kohli and records seem to have become synonymous with one another. The upcoming ODI series between India and the West Indies may see Virat Kohli create a few more records. And most of them are within hand shaking distance.
Virat Kohli has the chance of going past Pakistan batting legend Javed Miandad, Ramnaresh Sarwan and West Indies batting great Desmond Haynes in the upcoming three-game ODI series. This is what Kohli is set to achieve.
Miandad’s 1,930 ODI runs are the most scored by any batsman against the West Indies. The Indian skipper’s tally currently stands at 1,919. So if he scores only 12 more runs, he will become the highest aggregator against the West Indies leaving behind Miandad. And he may take the tally to an unreachable one as Virat Kohli still has some more years of cricket left in him.
The record of most runs scored in ODIs on West Indies soil against India belongs to Sarwan. He has scored 700 runs. Kohli’s tally stands at 556 from 12 matches. So if he manages to score 145 runs in the three games (very possible) it will be another feather in Kohli’s cap.
Kohli has so far scored two centuries in ODIs against the West Indies, the same number that opener Haynes scored against India. So if Kohli gets one more ODI hundred in the ongoing series he will go past Haynes. Kohli will then become the batsman with the most number of centuries (3) between the two sides.
The form that he is in the moment, Kohli can easily achieve the feats. In fact he may break the record of Miandad in the first game itself which starts in a short while.
