Salepur: Three members of a family were electrocuted after coming in contact with a live wire while drying their clothes Friday.
The incident took place at Betai village under Salepur police limits of Cuttack district.
The deceased have been identified as Sita Mallick (70) and her two daughters-in-law Nandita Mallick (35) and Pushpalata Mallick (25).
According to locals, one of them was busy putting up clothes to dry when she accidentally came in contact with a live wire. In a bid to rescue her, two other women also suffered electric shocks leading to their untimely demise.
A pall of gloom descended the village after the news of the unfortunate incident broke.
On being informed, police reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter. The police officials sent the bodies for postmortem after registered a case of unnatural death.
