Bhubaneswar, Dec 28: As a dampener for people gearing up to celebrate the New Year on an exalted note, the India Meteorological Department Sunday predicted rain and thundershowers December 31 at a few places in the state.
Met director Sarat Sahu told Orissa POST there is no need to panic as no cyclone or heavy rainfall is seen. The system has been brewing over Tenasserim coast and may cause light rain or cause thundershowers. “Even if the system intensifies further, it will not affect the state. But a few pockets of the coast may receive light to moderate rainfall around December 31,” Sahu indicated.
The weatherman said the rainfall will decrease from January 2. “The system over the Bay of Bengal will affect the state for about 48 to 72 hours beginning December 31,” said Sahu.
The Met department predicted prevalence of cold wave conditions at isolated pockets in the next 48 hours. Phulabani recorded the lowest temperature in the state with 5 degree Celsius followed by Bhawanipatna 6 degree Celsius, Sunday.
Weather department foresaw cloudy skies for Bhubaneswar and its neighbourhood along with fog in the next 24 hours. The minimum temperature in the capital may hover around 11 degrees Celsius Monday.
