Kankadahad: Acting on a tip-off, forest officials Saturday arrested a timber smuggler following a raid while four others managed to escape.
The five were smuggling valuable timber on a vehicle from Kankadahad reserve forest area in Dhenkanal district.
The arrested accused was identified as Dushasan Dehuri of Kargola village. The absconders have been identified as Goburi Dehuri, Gatia Dehuri, Gobind Dehuri and Parma Dehuri of the same village.
Forest department officials intercepted their vehicle and seized a huge consignment of ‘Sal’ logs. They managed to arrest Dushasan, but the others fled. Efforts are underway to nab the absconding four, officials said.
