Tortured by senior cadres, ultra surrenders in Bolangir

Bolangir: An 18-year-old hardcore Maoist cadre of Bargarh-Bolangir-Mahasamund division of the outlawed outfit Friday surrendered before Bolangir SP Ashish Kumar Singh due to atrocities inflicted upon him by senior cadres.

This was stated by the SP at press conference. The ultra was identified as Sanyasi Sagaria of Nagphena village under Turekela police limits.

According to police, Sanyasi, son of Sadar Sagaria, was lured into the Maoist fold in 2015, under the leadership of Sanjeev. He was given a 15-day training at Gandhamardan reserve forest and was regulated mostly in Turekela, Lathor, Chatardandi, Patapani, Dandol, Raju, Bender, Chandil areas under Khaprakhol police limits and Gandhamardan reserve forest.

He was tasked with collecting information on whereabouts of contractors and forest officials. Sanyasi was also asked to recruit youths of the area. He was involved in the exchange of fire between Maoists and the police at Chandil reserve forest in August.
However, fed up with the atrocities meted out to him by senior cadres, he decided to lay down arms and join the social mainstream, Sanyasi said.

He said another reason behind his surrender was that the ultras were deviating from their ideology and indulged in activities detrimental to the interests of the poor and the tribals.
The SP said a compensation of Rs 1 lakh would be given to Sanyasi and he would be rehabilitated as per provisions of the state government’s rehabilitation policy. PNN
