Cuttack: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has informed the Orissa High Court that it will allow traffic on a over bridge at Barang by November-end.
This assurance came in a reply the railway authorities had presented to the court in a case pertaining to closing down of a level-crossing in the locality.
In deference to an earlier order of the High Court, ECoR General Manager and Chief Project Manager submitted their affidavits and told the court that the railway authorities would take appropriate steps to address people’s grievances regarding the level-crossing.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi asked ECoR authorities to inform the petitioner on the measures introduced to close down the Barang level-crossing. The bench posted the next hearing to December.
Petitioner Bishwaranjan Ghadei had informed the High Court that the state government had constructed a bridge over Kathajodi River connecting CDA and Trishulia to provide an alternative route between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. However, a railway level-crossing at Barang is causing inconvenience to commuters on the route.
The petitioner had raised the level-crossing issue with the ECoR General Manager. Subsequently, railway authorities had assured him to close down the Barang level-crossing by June 30. However, the railway authorities are yet to keep their promise, the petitioner informed the High Court.
