Bhubaneswar, July 3: The Central Hindi Directorate has announced the national award for a Hindi translation of the Oriya novel ‘Gangavatarana’. The book written by painter and writer Dr Dinanath Pathy was translated into Hindi by Dr Dillip Kumar Tripathy. Dillip was a student of Dinanath.
The award comprises a purse of `1 Lakh besides a citation. Dillip is an art historian, artist and writer and hails from Ganjam. He works as programme officer at Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi.
Dillip said: “It was a surprise as it was my maiden translation. It took me about 8 months to translate this book. I went through much criticism but could finish it. This award is the result of my patience.”
Dinanath, too, spoke with Orissa POST about the award and the necessity of translations. “I am happy that the translation of my book has been selected for the national award and I am also proud as my student is getting it. Oriya literature will not reach the world if novels remain in Oriya language. Similar translations will spread the richness of Oriya literature across nations.
There are several Oriya writers who are hidden as their books are not being translated into global languages. So, I encourage writers to translate their creations to reach other parts of the globe,” he said.
Book released
Poet Subhashree Lenka released an anthology of translated poems titled ‘Nightscapes’ at India International Centre in New Delhi, Sunday.
Balasore MP Rabindra Kumar Jena and noted writer Dr JP Das attended the event as guests of honour.
The poems have been translated by leading Oriya litterateurs Jayanta Mahapatra, Ramakanta Rath, JP Das, Sumanyu Satpathy, Jatindra Nayak, Mamata Dash, Yashodhara Mishra, Aurobindo Behera, Sangram Jena and Snehaprava Das. Subhashree Lenka is a poet of renown and columnist with an Oriya newspaper and contributes articles to journals. She works as a lecturer in Oriya and is also involved in child welfare activities.
