Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police came up with an interesting meme on non-disclosure of passwords Saturday. In recent times, the police have used various memes to share important messages related to traffic awareness, drink driving etc.
Continuing the trend, the department shared an interesting meme that stressed on the importance of non-disclosure of passwords to others. The tweet is an attempt at creating awareness on not sharing “Sensitive personal data or information of a person”, which includes passwords, financial information such as bank account number, payment details, physiological or mental health condition, sexual orientation and medical records etc.
To create mass awareness on dangers of online fraud, the Odisha Police shared a meme where they said, “Friends might forgive spoilers, mothers will understand but a con would leave no chance of exploiting your data. Never disclose your passwords”.
In the meme they stated the three things that should never be disclosed. They said that among these things, protecting passwords should be of paramount importance.
Many cases have come to the fore in recent times where innocent citizens have been duped by criminals, who exploit their online vulnerabilities. Recently, two African nationals from Delhi were arrested on the charge of duping a woman from Bhubaneswar of Rs 10.49 lakh. The state has witnessed several such cases in recent times where foreigners, mainly from Africa, cheated citizens on various pretexts.
This is not the first instance of Odisha Police tweeting about something important in a humorous way. Earlier in another tweet July 13, 2018 the police said, “Drinking at open public spaces will get the cheers end with tears”. Similarly, during Kiki challenge they took to Twitter to advise people to ‘#ControlYourFeelings’ and have ‘#SenseOverTrend’.
In another instance, Odisha Police extended a helping hand to youngsters to drive home their message on over-speeding and adherence to traffic rules among youngsters. In a tweet July 7, they had popular actress Daisy Shah delivering the dialogue “Our business is our business, none of your business”, to which Odisha Police tweeted “Follow the rules else your business will be our business”.
Director General of Police RP Sharma said that the idea is to instill a sense of responsibility in people without being preachy or intimidating. Conveying a serious message in a humorous way appeals to everyone.
