Twin-city to have 4-lane ring road

Bhubaneswar, Jan 19: The twin-city will have a bypass road (ring road) to avoid burgeoning traffic congestions in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
“The state government had proposed a four-lane 64-km long bypass from Khurda to Manguli which has received an in-principle approval from the Union ministry of road, transport and highways,” public works secretary Nalini Kanta Pradhan told the media near the venue of the Indian Road Congress here.
While we are working on a six-lane project to be developed in near future for the two cities, the traffic congestion will still remain until and unless there is an eight-lane road. For this, construction of a bypass is essential, he said. Pradhan further said that the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed road would be prepared soon.
Apart from this project there is also a proposal for developing an inter-state road corridor between Rourkela and Jagdalpur, he said. To enhance road infrastructure and connectivity in urban and rural areas, the state government has implemented State Highways Development Programme, Capital Development Programme and Mukhyamantri Sadak Yojana along with several other projects, he said.
While working on road projects, the state will lay importance on the use of green technology and industrial wastes, especially fly ash, he added.
