Angul: Two pilgrims including a car driver died while three others were left battling for life in a road mishap Saturday night. A car they were travelling in collided head-on with an “over-speeding” truck on National Highway 55 near Handpa in this district.
The identity of the deceased and the injured was unknown. Preliminary investigations revealed they were from Chhattisgarh. The five including the car driver were on their way to the Puri Jagannath Temple.
The car and the truck collided and the car driver lost balance. The driver died on the spot while another pilgrim died on the way to a hospital. Passers-by informed the police after which the three injured were rescued and admitted to the district hospital (DHH). Police seized the vehicles and launched a probe.
A case was registered and a manhunt launched to nab the truck driver who was absconding.
