Bargarh: Three persons, including two school students were killed as the the two-wheeler on which they were pillion riders was hit by a JCB excavator at Petupali Chhak on Sohela-Padmapur road in Bargarh district Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Saroj Pradhan of Dangarkermeli village under Melchamunda police limits, Koustav Bhoi of Nuapali and Akash Kunwar of Churiapali.
The incident spread tension in the area as angry locals staged road blockade. Later, some of them set the camp on fire. A police team was deployed on the spot to bring the situation under control.
It is reported that Koustav and Akash, both the Class-IX students were returning home after attending tuition classes when the mishap occurred. They are believed to have taken lift from Saroj on their way back home.
In another incident, five people including four- two women and two minor children of a family were critically injured in a series of accident at Nuapada under Panikoili police limits in Jajpur.
Four persons of a family were rendered critical after an auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a Scorpio on National Highway-20 near Panikoili in Jajpur district.
The impact of the collision was so high that the four persons seated in the auto were thrown onto the road and sustained serious injuries. They have been identified as Diptimayee Behera (40), Parbati Behera (35), Soumya (10) and Sonali (15).
The injured were initially rushed to a nearby hospital but later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.
Similarly, a biker was rendered critical after he lost control on his two-wheeler near Nuapada village.
