Bhubaneswar: Utkal Karate School (UKS) will host the VIIIth All India Open Karate Championship at its premises here September 1-3, Hari Patnaik, founder of UKS announced in a press meet here Wednesday.
More than 1,000 karatekas, compared to last year’s 400, will vie for the top honours in this three-day event which will see players participating from West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Jammu & Kashmir and the hosts Orissa. MP will be sending the largest contingent.
Speaking to the mediapersons here Patnaik said, “Basically this will be a promotional tournament. The karatekas of Orissa will get the chance to compete with their experienced counterparts from other states. It will be a good learning curve for the local karatekas as their opponents will be well experienced having taken part regularly in national and international meets. The knowledge gained from the tourney will stand them in good stead.”
He also announced that Utkal Karate School got the ISO certification, Tuesday.
