Bhubaneswar: After the successful hosting of the Mixed Marital Art Yodha competition for last two years, Utkal Karate School (UKS) will now organise the Mixed Martial Art National Championships in its premises here October 13-15.
“The competition is named IIIrd AIMAA Amateur MMA Nationals. More than three hundred fighters, both in the men’s and the women’s categories will take part in this three-day competition. Fifteen participants from the state will take part in the championship,” UKS founder Hari Prasad Patnaik stated in a press conference, Sunday.
Prabhat triumphs
Prabhat Kumar Ojha of Bhubaneswar emerged champion of the Xth Sundeep Mohanty Memorial Open Chess Championships, which concluded here Sunday. He took the top honours with a total of 8.5 points.
Borhan Molla and Kumar Ashok of the same town also garnered identical number of points, but they had to be satisfied with the second and third place finish respectively on the basis of tie-breakers. Prakash Chandra Sahoo of Puri finished fourth, while Sailendranath Rout of Bhubaneswar secured the fifth position.

Handball tourney
Jajpur and Bhubaneswar emerged champions in the girls’ and the boys’ categories respectively in the 24th State Junior Handball Championship, which concluded in Dhenkanal, Sunday.
In the girls’ segment Jajpur defeated Cuttack 3-1, while in the boys’ category Bhubaneswar got the better of Jagatsinghpur 10-6.
